DOHA, Qatar -- A trio of former University of Tennessee standouts represented the United States at the recent IAAF World Indoor Championships over the weekend, and 2009 UT graduate Sarah Bowman left her mark in her first major international competition since concluding her collegiate career for the Big Orange.
Bowman posted a pair of personal-best times, March 12-14, finishing ninth in the 1500 meters Sunday in four minutes, 10.72 seconds after making her first international final as a professional runner.
The former Lady Vol, who continues to train with UT Director of Track & Field J.J. Clark, also posted a personal-best time in the prelims on Friday, tying for eighth in the prelims at 4:12.91.
Ex-Vol Tim Mack and ex-Lady Vol DeeDee Trotter also were in action. Mack, an Olympic gold medalist in the pole vault in 2004, tied for 14th in Doha, clearing 17 feet, 10 1/2 inches on his second attempt.
He missed at 18-4 1/2. Trotter, meanwhile, tied for the fastest time in her heat in the prelims at 52.75 and bowed out in the semifinals, placing fifth in her heat and taking ninth overall in 52.55. She also has a gold medal to her credit, earning one with the 4x400m relay in 2004.
