“Big Weave becomes Red Raider,” is how Corbin Weaver’s Seymour High School baseball coach Scott Norman put it.
The red headed lefty from Seymour High School inked his papers to play for the Roane State Community College Red Raiders baseball team.
Weaver had this to say on his big day,” I’m just glad I get to play college baseball. It’s been hard work; a lot of hard work. I had to do a lot of running; waking up at 6:30 in the morning and throwing. It was a lot of sacrifice.” When asked if he was excited Weaver responded,” I’m really excited to play college baseball. It’s been my dream. Hopefully I will get to go higher.”
The former all district lefty is an outstanding pitcher and a good hitter.
Midway through the year Weaver was 7-1 as a pitcher with an ERA of 1.5. “He was our number one pitcher who beat some very good teams such as Anderson County and a shutout over Morristown East. He had a very good year. Going into May he was really throwing the ball well. “
Weaver’s hitting was by no means shabby either. His batting average was .310 with 5 home runs.
Coach Norman added, ”I think he is being signed a little more as a pitcher than a position player.
“He has had a good year in the weight room adding a few more miles per hour to his fast ball. He throws low to mid 80’s (mph) with a good change up and curve ball. We’re just excited that he gets to go on and play at the next level. By signing early it takes a lot of pressure off.”
When asked where Weaver’s baseball career started, Coach Norman responded, “I believe he started at Bower Field at the age of around 5, then played for Doug Newport for 4 or 5 years, then moved on to the middle school team. He’s been in the varsity lineup since he was a sophomore.
“Being left handed makes him special.”
Weaver started in the District Championship game as a pitcher last year which gives an indication of just how good he is and how much confidence coach Norman had in him.
The honors keep pouring in at Seymour schools which is a tribute to the type of kids and leaders in the Seymour school system.
