It was an uphill battle from the get-go Tuesday night in the Seymour Eagles’ region tournament soccer game at Knox-Catholic.

The Eagles (13-6-3) saw the powerful Irish score three goals in the game’s first 15 minutes on their way to a relatively easy 5-0 tournament victory.

Catholic head coach Mark Leader said the game couldn’t have gone better for the Irish if he had scripted it himself.

“I’m obviously very pleased,” said Leader. “We played very well. Our guys are really excited and ready to get going with the rest of the season.”

Leader said it looked like the Eagles just didn’t bring their best effort to Tuesday ‘s region tournament tilt.

“It didn’t look like they were ready to play,” said Leader. “They absolutely have good talent. They moved the ball around good and they have some good players. It looked like they just got frustrated.”

The Irish (25-2) will next play Christian Academy of Knoxville, 4-3 Tuesday night winners over Alcoa, in Thursday’s region finals. Catholic and CAK  will both advance to Saturday’s sectional round.
