During the month of April hundreds of universities around the country will commemorate National Student-Athlete Day.
National Student-Athlete Day honors student-athletes and the network of parents, coaches, teachers and school systems that make it possible for young people to strike a balance between academics and athletic achievement.
The University of Tennessee’s men’s and women’s athletics departments are celebrating National Student-Athlete Day in partnership with TeamVOLS Volunteer Center in hosting April Play Day. April Play Day will involve more than 500 children from nine different Knoxville area Boys and Girls Clubs.
The event will be a chance for young children to play and interact with student-athletes from UT, listen to a motivational talks from UT Athletes, and see that college is an attainable goal with a little hard work. The carnival-like atmosphere will include numerous activities such as, face painting, race the athlete, play catch with a player, jump rope, basketball skills, and will include several inflatable games. The event will be held April 23 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Thompson Boling Arena.
