A 30-8 win over county foe Pigeon Forge enabled the 5-3 Seymour Eagles to end an up-and-down 2007 middle school football season on a high note.

“It was a great overall team effort,” Seymour head coach Chad Pfeffinger said regarding his squad’s victory. “We seemed to get good effort from everyone who played and it was a great win for our team.

“I’m proud of all of our players and I’m really going to miss all of the eighth-graders.”

Playmaking Seymour running back Levi Medley ended his fine eighth grade season in style by scoring on a pair of touchdown runs to put his team in front early on.

Taylor Overton added a 15-yard touchdown jaunt and eighth-grade quarterback Kyle Pope completed a touchdown pass to Hunter Brown

Talented SMS ballcarriers Cody Davis and Trent Williams each added a two-point conversion score for the Eagles.

Brown and Overton each came away with an interception for the Eagles, and Brown and Davis both recovered fumbles.

Bryson Dockery and Drew Russell recorded quarterback sacks for Seymour.

Pigeon Forge scored its lone touchdown on a fourth-quarter Josh Knox quarterback sneak.

Despite the loss, first-year PFMS head coach David Ray said his club has had an exciting season.

“It was a really good year for us,” said Ray. “We improved a lot and I’m really proud of our guys for the effort they put forth this year.

“(Pigeon Forge High School’s first-year head coach) Lee Hammonds came to our high school this year and put in a system and it has really started to make a difference,” Ray continued. “We’ve tried to use the same system at the middle school as they use at the high school so it will help the high school too.”

The Pigeon Forge Middle School Tigers finished 3-3 this season.

Great job guys! You have overcome a lot of stuff this year and have all remained friends even when things got a little out of control.

For the boys that their comments were misunderstood, you are good kids and hopefully you will not let any of these comments affect you.

For Kyle Pope, you have taken all this for what it was and actually listened to the truth and I commend you for that. You are wise beyond your years.

To all the rest of the team, thank you for the great effort that each and everyone of you put forth, may you all reach your dreams!

Hey, what a good job Peff has done and all the other coaches/staff. Look at our cheerleaders and support they bring. Look at it all and reconize our blessings. It's a truly team spirit. It's about the perents too ! They supply the fuel for the kids to make ! They supply the love. Wow what a difference love can make. Please parents let up some ! I think you will learn how some day maybe easy !!!!!
