Townsend native Bill Burns continues to lead the points races at 411 Dragway after a pair of top finishes on Saturday night to go along with a Super Street win on Friday.
Burns, the veteran driver of a 1937 Chevy Truck racecar, beat Terry Joe Kilby and Dayle Gains Friday night in a close competition for the Super Street title.
Kilby, driving a Mazda, finished with a 7.87 Dial-In time (8.01 ET) and Gains, of New Tazewell, clocked in with an 8.30 Dial-In (7.26) to finish second and third, respectively, in the Super Street competition on Friday at the 411 Dragway in Seymour.
Texas native Brandon Roderick took the Foot Brake competition with a 7.81 Dial-In time (7.88 ET) in his 1982 Camaro. Norman Chesney, driving a 1971 Duster, finished second and Burns rounded out the top three.
Jim Yearout won the Electronics division in his 1990 Ford Probe with a Dial-In time of 5.86 (5.87 ET). Rick Atkins of Maryville was second in his 1973 Ford Maverick with a Dial-In time of 5.98 (5.98 ET).
Burns was on top of his game Saturday, taking the Trophy race in his bright yellow ’37 Chevy with a 7.88 Dial-In time (7.92 ET). He also finished second behind Tellico Plains racer Mike Grant in the Foot Brake Division.
Grant, running his 1985 Chevy S-10, turned in a Dial-In time of 7.45 to outdistance Burns (7.94) in the Foot Brake race. Paul Carney of Knoxville finished third with a Dial-in time of 7.56 (7.52 ET) in his 1987 Ford Mustang.
Elliott Freeman of Lafollette, driving a 1986 Chevy S-10, was second in the Trophy division with a 7.45 Dial-In (7.43 ET).
Maryville’s Donna Koopman, driving a 2006 Dodge Charger, was third in Saturday’s Trophy Class.
