Fishing has slowed down significantly this week on Douglas. The water level is continuing to drop and has made it a challenge for anglers to find fish.
The water temperature is starting out around 78 degrees and is warming up to around 82 degrees in the afternoon depending on the area.
The fish that are biting are being caught on crank baits along rocky points on cloudy days, while Carolina rigged lizards and worms seem to be the best choice on hot and sunny days.
The tough conditions have slowed the big fish bite and the majority of fish that are being caught are small.
The fishing on Fort Loudon has been great over the past week. The surface water temperature is warming up into the mid 80’s making deep points and structure a prime location for catching big fish.
Small mouth bass are very active and anglers are having the most luck using Texas and Carolina rigged worms and lizards.
Large mouth bass are also very active this week and are hitting DD22 crank baits on a consistent basis.
Anglers have also been catching some keeper fish on jigs around deadwood.
Trinity Trail will be hosting a tournament this week on Douglas at the Douglas Dam boat ramp. The tournament will run from 5 a.m. until noon. The cost for entry is $50 dollars and everyone is welcome to come out and participate.
