An unidentified baseball fan wasn’t arguing balls and strikes when he was ejected from the Tennessee Smokies important Fathers Day game against the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx Sunday afternoon.
Actually, it wasn’t clear what the man was yelling about but it was apparent that something or someone had drawn his ire.
The homestanding Smokies were trailing the dreaded Diamond Jaxx in the middle innings by a score of 2-0 when the irate man stood up from his seat that was located more on the first base side behind home plate.
He was holding a cup of beer and asking someone to join him outside when a pair of uniformed police officers quickly arrived at the scene and escorted the hostile gentleman up to the concourse area and ultimately out of the stadium.
Players standing in the Smokies’ dugout, alarmed by the loud voice that wasn’t coming from the direction of their manager Pat Listach, stood on the railing of the dugout and leaned out to look back into the stadium and get a good glimpse of the angry, red faced patron.
Several other Smokies fans tried in vain to settle the perturbed fan down before the police officers arrived at the scene.
The Smokies’ late rally fell short and West Tenn held on for a 4-3 win to officially eliminate Tennessee from winning the first half North Division Championship of the Southern League.
