Tennessee sophomore guard J.P. Prince has been named the SEC Player of the Week after helping lead the 12th-ranked Volunteers to wins over UNC Asheville and at 24th-ranked Xavier last week.

The Memphis native posted a career-high 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting against UNC Asheville and then improved that career mark with 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting at No. 24 Xavier. Prince, who has played in just three games for the Vols after transferring from Arizona midway through last season, averaged 18.0 points on 65.2 percent (15-of-23) shooting from the field, 4.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds in Tennessee's two games last week.

Prince is the second UT player to earn an SEC weekly honor this season. Brian Williams was named the SEC Freshman of the Week on Dec. 17 after scoring 16 points and gathering 14 rebounds in a win over Western Kentucky.

The Vols will be back in action this weekend when the meet nationally-ranked Gonzaga in the Battle In Seattle on Saturday, Dec. 29.
