Tennessee freshman placekicker Daniel Lincoln was named to the Football Writers Association of America’s 64th All-America Team over the weekend.
The Ocala, Fla., native has made 21-of-28 field goal attempts this season and scored 112 points, which are the third-most points in a season in Tennessee history and most in a season by a kicker. His 21 field goals made and 112 points both stand as school freshman records, and he is already 11th on UT’s list for career field goals made.
Included in his 21 field goals were multiple clutch kicks, including a 48-yarder with five seconds left to send the South Carolina game into overtime before nailing the game-winning 27-yarder in the extra period. He also knocked through a 33-yard field goal with 2:46 left that provided the winning margin in a 25-24 victory over Vanderbilt.
The Football Writers Association of America’s All-America Team is the second-longest continuously published team in college football and has been a staple of the college football scene since 1944. Lincoln is one of three redshirt freshmen that made the 25-man team. The Big 12’s seven selections and SEC’s six dominated the team as no other conference placed more than three athletes on this year’s team.
Last week, Lincoln was tabbed by Rivals.com a Freshman All-America second team and All-SEC first team choice. He also earned All-SEC second-team status from the league’s coaches and media and is a consensus Freshman All-SEC honoree.
The SEC’s only Groza Award semifinalist, Lincoln also was named this fall to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV squad.
Tennessee now has 71 individual All-America selections, who have been recognized a total of 86 times.
