The 2007 Seymour High School golf teams toasted their just completed seasons recently with the team banquet held at a Pigeon Forge restaurant.

The Eagles, district and county champions and third-place region finishers after posting a 28-2 record, said goodbye to a pair of seniors at the event. The Lady Eagles, who ended the year with a 6-19 record and a third-place district finish, did not have a senior on its two-member team.

Willie Sexton and Kevin Huff were the only 12-grade golfers that competed for SHS last season. During Sexton and Huff’s respective prep golfing careers their teams combined for an 85-4 record that included a state runner-up, three county championships, two district championships and one region championship.

The Eagles’ coaches took time to recognize several individual players for earning different accolades throughout the past year.

SHS junior Andrew Ramsey was honored for winning the 2007 Sevier County Championship, a three-day mid-season tournament played at three different golf courses in the county.

Ramsey and Huff were both named All-Sevier County at the tournament.

Ramsey, Huff and Spencer Rudder were recognized at the team banquet for being named to the 2007 3 A-AA All-District Team.

Ramsey, Huff and Sexton were also honored as All-Region performers.

Lady Eagles’ golfers Maggie Drew and Megan Gamble were credited by assistant golf coach Lee Ramsey for their surprising performance in the district tournament that earned the Lady Eagles a coveted and unexpected berth to the region tournament.

Dew, a junior who managed the lowest score for the girls with a 49.88 average, and Gamble, just a freshman who came on strong to finish the season with a 54.60 per hole average, were lauded for their work effort and constant improvement despite being undermanned for virtually every match they played.
