to benefit celiac support

The East Tennessee Chapter of PMI (Project Management Institute) is hosting a golf tournament on September 14 at Willow Creek Golf Club in Farragut, Tenn., with all proceeds benefiting the Celiac Disease Support Group at Children's Hospital. The golf tournament is a four-person scramble format. Registration is $100 per player and includes a light breakfast, lunch, green and cart fees, and range balls. In addition, a goody bag with a golf shirt, sleeve of golf balls, tees, ball markers, ball mark repair tool, golf towel, and restaurant certificates will be given to each player. Each player is also eligible for several door prize giveaways.

The focus of this tournament is to bring awareness and funding to the Celiac Support Group at Children's Hospital. Celiac disease is a life-long autoimmune intestinal disorder with no cure. Patients with celiac disease cannot tolerate a protein called gluten, which is found in wheat, rye and barley. If someone with this disease ingests foods containing gluten, their immune system responds with irritation in the small intestine; therefore much needed nutrients are not absorbed by his or her body.

"The support group empowers children to take control of their disease," said Don McKenzie of PMI. "Celiac is not as well known as some other common illnesses, so information can sometimes be hard to come by. That's why continuing this support group is so essential and the members of PMI are glad to support this group."

Space is still available for teams to enter the tournament. To register online, visit the East Tennessee Chapter PMI's Web site at www.etpmi.org or contact the Children's Hospital Development Office at (865) 541-8441.
