At least the Seymour Lady Eagles were able to salvage one win out of Tuesday’s four-team meet at Catholic High School, the second day of the KIL Volleyball Tournament.

Seymour finished the two-day event with a 3-3 record while, in the process, facing some of the best clubs in East Tennessee.

After a pair of wins and a loss on Monday, the Lady Eagles landed at the Catholic High School gymnasium for scheduled matches against Farragut, South-Doyle and the host Lady Irish Tuesday evening.

Lady Eagles’ head coach Ed Irvin admitted his squad was in over its head in two of the three matches.

“Our team was outmatched in the Farragut and Catholic matches,” Irvin noted. “I’m proud of the girls for working hard and collecting a victory over South-Doyle.”

Seymour lost to Farragut (25-17, 25-17), and then fell at the hands of Catholic (25-14-25-14). Both the Lady Admirals and the Lady Irish are widely regarded as two of the finest prep volleyball squads east of Nashville.

The Lady Eagles have a nice nucleus of players but are still seeking their identity as a team.

Seymour used the stellar play of Hailey Lindsey (10 points, 26 sets, 14 assists) and Megan England (eight points, 17 spikes, eight kills) to help push past the Lady Cherokees (25-20, 17-25, 16-14).

Morgan Peterson led the Lady Eagles in the loss to Farragut with 15 sets, 15 assists and five kills. Amanda Louallen contributed nine digs in the losing effort against the Lady Admirals.

LouAnna Smith sparkled with 15 digs versus Catholic, while Haley Huelsman registered four blocks in the loss to the Lady Irish.

The Lady Eagles are set to host South-Doyle and the Knoxville Christian School Thursday at SHS. The competition will begin with the junior varsity tilt at 4:30. The varsity matches will follow.
