The Seymour Lady Eagles volleyball squad suffered its first loss of the current regular season Monday when they fell to Bearden, 25-20, 15-25, 10-15 in an early-season tournament.

The Lady Eagles did manage to defeat district foe Gibbs, 25-4, 25-13, and bounced back after the Bearden loss to handle Halls, 25-17, 25-14, in the Knoxville Interscholastic League (KIL) Tournament held at Bearden High School.

The Lady Eagles, coming off one of the best seasons in program history a year ago, continue their rugged, non-conference slate Tuesday when they travel back to West Knoxville, this time to Catholic High School, where they are scheduled to face triple-A powerhouse Farragut, along with South-Doyle and Catholic, in the final night of the high-profile, early-season tourney.

Monday night the Lady Eagles jumped out of the blocks quickly and smothered district foe Gibbs.

After falling behind the host Lady Bulldogs in the first game of the second match, Seymour fought back to take the first game but failed to hold their previously gathered momentum and allowed Bearden to come back and take the set.

“It was poor serving and spiking that doomed us in the second and third games,” Seymour head coach Ed Irvin commented.

Hailey Lindsey (13 points, 14 sets and nine assists) and Megan England (13 kills) paced the Lady Eagles in the win over Gibbs.

All-State candidate Morgan Peterson (13 spikes, eight kills, 20 sets and four assists), and senior leader LouAnna Smith (13 digs, seven spikes and one kill) led Seymour in the losing effort against Bearden.

Amanda Louallen (eight points, seven digs) and Rachel Smith (five spikes, six digs) were the top SHS performers in the win over Halls.
