The latest victims to fall prey to the streaking Lady Eagles of Seymour were the Austin-East Lady Roadrunners Monday afternoon in East Knoxville.
Off to one of the best starts in program history, the 23-3 Lady Eagles made easy work of the overmatched Lady Roadrunner (now 2-8).
Seymour defeated the home team in three straight games, 25-3, 25-11, 25-6, and easily coasted to victory.
The Lady Eagles were led to the win over Austin-East by Morgan Peterson, who turned in another remarkable performance, finishing the night with 21 aces, 30 points, 27 sets and 14 assists. Seymour’s Haley Lindsey chipped in 11 points and four aces against the Lady Roadrunners.
Seymour was offered more of a test last week in a pair of matches at a three-way meet at Cosby High School.
The Lady Eagles claimed victory in matches against both Cosby and Carter on the night, and the squad from Cosby made things a little too interesting for Seymour and its head coach Ed Irvin.
Seymour had to regroup after a late Cosby rally in game-one between the two clubs.
The Lady Eagles used their superior athleticism to jump out to a rather easy early advantage only to lose focus and let the home team stage a late charge.
Irvin pulled in the reigns and helped guide the Lady Eagles back to hold on for a 25-23 win. Seymour took the other two games over Carter 25-12 and 25-18.
The Lady Eagles had no trouble with the Lady Hornets, taking three straight, 25-3, 25-5 and 25-8.
Peterson also led the Lady Eagles charge against the scrapping Cosby club, accounting for 10 points, six kills, 19 assists and 25 sets. Her look-alike, older-sister Megan contributed nine kills and 13 spikes to the Lady Eagles’ cause against Cosby.
Crystal Suttles paced Seymour over Carter, finishing with 19 points, nine assists and five kills. Megan England had 11 points, three aces and six kills in the well-balanced Seymour attack.
