Beam sparks Lions to victory

Beam was a scoring machine, delivering touchdowns three different ways. The win improved the Lions record to 1-1 on the season with St. Andrews paying a visit to the sprawling Seymour campus for a clash with the Lions Friday night. Beam will have his work cut out for him if he has any plans to improve on his performance against North Greene. The versatile senior picked off a North Greene pass at midfield during the game’s second quarter and returned the pick all the way back for a Lions’ touchdown. Gareth Rowlands drilled the second of his five extra-point attempts to make The King’s Academy’s lead 14-0. Rowlands added to the first half lead with a two-yard touchdown plunge to cap a Lions’ offensive series later in the second quarter to help establish a 21-0 halftime advantage for the home team. Beam was the recipient of a 53-yard pass from quarterback Brett Weaver in the third quarter that he turned into his team’s next score. North Greene finally got on the board by way of an interception return early in the fourth stanza. The visitor’s two-point conversion attempt following the interception return failed, leaving the Lions’ second half lead 28-6. Beam capped the Lions’ ensuing drive with a six-yard touchdown dash to make it 35-6 later in the fourth. North Greene went through the air to score the final points of the night on a 43-yard touchdown pass to make it 35-12. The loss drops North Greene’s season mark to 1-2.
