news@theheraldnewspapers.com The Gatlinburg-Pittman Lady Highlanders collected their third win of the season with a 6-0 shutout of Cumberland Gap Tuesday night at the G-P home soccer field. Senior Chelcey Flenniken had an active first half. Flenniken started the early G-P scoring flurry by dishing out an assist to classmate Brittney Everhart for her team’s initial tally of the contest. Moments later she had the favor returned from ninth-grader Caroline Conner, who placed a pass in front of Flenniken that led to the goal that put the Lady Highlanders on top 2-0. Flenniken added the third Lady Highlanders score as well. Freshman Gretchen Cecere scored G-P’s final goal of the first half a couple minutes later, putting the Lady Highlanders up 4-0. Sophomore Jamie Hatcher tallied for Gatlinburg-Pittman first in the second half, and junior Chelsea Watson closed the Lady Highlanders’ balanced offensive attack. So far the hallmark of the Lady Highlanders’ impressive start to the season has been the team’s unselfish play. The squad is a healthy mix of young talent and seasoned veterans that is being guided by a first-year coach that seems to have added a shot of energy to the Lady Highlanders and provided a renewed attitude of team-play.
