Hoops jamboree a success

The fourth-annual Seymour High School Basketball Jamboree was a rousing success Monday night at the SHS gymnasium. Once again the proceeds raised during the evening’s festivities went to Lady Eagles’ assistant coach Dennis Berrier and his ongoing battle with cancer. Over $2,200 was reportedly raised for the cause at the event that featured a brief glimpse of all five county high school boys and girls teams in a one-quarter (12 minute) exhibition period. The boys and girls teams from the Berean Christian Academy were also on hand to compete in tip-off to the 2006/07 basketball season. At the halfway point of the night, a three-point contest and a slam-dunk contest was held to the delight of the crowd, made up largely with students from the participating schools. Some interesting contests involving the county team are scheduled to take place in the coming days with several Hall of Fame games.
