Griffith named to academic All-District First Team

Last season, junior was named to the All-District Second Team University of Tennessee tennis player Blakeley Griffith has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 4 First Team for at-large sports. In the classroom, the junior has maintained a cumulative 4.0 GPA, while pursuing a degree in English. On the courts, she posted an 18-13 doubles record, going 13-10 at No. 2, and a 17-18 singles mark, which included an 11-6 record at No. 3 and 3-5 in the second position. She helped lead Tennessee to the NCAA Tournament for the 12th consecutive year. Her athletic highlights from the 2006 dual-match season included: Rallying from a first-set loss for a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 win to tie the overall team score, 3-3, versus No. 26 Georgia on the way to Tennessee’s dramatic rally in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals from 3-0 down for a 4-3 victory. Against No. 19 South Carolina, earned a 9-8 (14-12) doubles win after trailing, 8-7, to clinch the doubles point of UT’s 4-3 road win. She would also earn the final singles point of that dramatic match. Defeated No. 46 Caitlin Collins of North Carolina, 6-1, 7-5, on Jan. 21 in first match of dual season for her biggest win (based on opponent’s national ranking) of the campaign.
