Eagles, Lady Eagles eliminated by Catholic in tennis region championship
news@theheraldnewspapers.com
Private school dynamo Catholic dashed the Seymour tennis team’s dreams of a state tournament appearance last week in the District A/AA Championship match.
Lady Eagles’ junior Keely Moore had been almost untouchable all season, skipping though her team’s grid with an unblemished individual mark. Moore met her match when she faced off with Kassie Moore (no relation) of Catholic. Kassie Moore won the battle of top seeded Moores 6-1, 6-0, setting the paced for her Lady Irish teammates, who ran the table against the Seymour squad.
Seymour’s Maggie Dew, Mandy England, Megan England and Jennifer Wilson also suffered defeat to the private school girls from West Knoxville.
The Eagles finished with the same results as their female counterparts. The Seymour boys’ season was ended by the Irish, who did not allow a single individual win for the Eagles.
Top-seeded Seymour netter Ryan Pierce fell to Catholic’s Nick Widmer 6-0, 6-1, and second-seeded Kevin Byrne was knocked off 6-1, 6-2.
Steven LeGrande, Jordan Lawson and Keaton Wingate also fell in individual play Friday against the Irish.
