TKA tracksters earn slot in regionals

Current Lions athletes have advanced farther than any other in school’s track and field history news@theheraldnewspapers.com For the first time in the long history of The King’s Academy, the school is sending a handful of athletes to the TSSAA Division II East Section Finals at the Girls Preparatory School in Chattanooga. Carl Josey, Tyler McDaniel, Jesse Ndurumo and Gareth Rowlands will compete in a variety of events at the meet, according to a release from the school sent out on Monday. The field events for the Section Finals will be held today, while the running events are set to take place on Thursday. Josey qualified for the long jump with an attempt of 18’1”, the 200 meter run with a time of 24.2, and the fourth leg of the 4x200 meter relay. A versatile athlete, the 6-foot-4 Josey has signed to play basketball next year at Virginia Military Institute. McDaniel qualified for the 100 meter run with a time of 11.6, the long jump with a leap of 17’3”, and the first leg of the 4x200 relay team. McDaniel also starred during his senior season on the basketball team and earned a football scholarship at Maryville College. Ndurumo, another versatile athlete who has participated in several different sports while a student at the Seymour private school, qualified with his track and field teammates to run the second leg of the 4x200 meter relay. Rowlands, the reigning Sevier County triple jump champion, qualified for the regional event in the 400 meter run with a time of 54.2, the triple jump with an effort of 38’3”, and will be the third leg of the 4x200 meter relay team.
