‘King of prank calls’ will be featured at racetrack on Saturday
A six division racing program consisting of “Gateway Ford” ASA Super Late Model, “Ramey Ford” Limited (Crate) Late Model, “Lawson Chevrolet” Open Wheel Modified, “Bachman Barnard” Hobby Stock, Mini Stock and “Renegade” Front Wheel Drives is scheduled Saturday, May 13 at Volunteer Speedway.
The Mini Stocks will compete in a $500-to-win feature.
You’ve heard him on many occasions as a guest on the nationally syndicated John Boy & Billy Big Show, which is carried on many radio stations around the country. And you’ve also seen him make special appearances on the SPEED Channel. Volunteer Speedway proudly announces LEE ROY MERCER® will be a guest for the night’s racing activities Saturday. This multi-talented comedic personality is widely known as “The King of the Prank Call.”
The WARHEAD RECORDS artist will serve as the honorary starter, plus he will also be available at the top of the grandstands for a meet-and-greet session with the fans and where his merchandise will also be available for sale. With many prank call recordings to his credit during 30 years in entertainment, Mercer and his producer Jon Holtz along with assistance from former NASCAR racer Rick Mast, released what most assuredly will turn out to be the No. 1 selling CD of his career on February 28, 2006.
No one had ever prank called NASCAR drivers, crew chiefs and team owners until Mercer. The NASCALLS™ CD features Lee Roy getting under the skin of such racing personalities as Tony Stewart, Dale Jarrett, Kevin Harvick, Bobby Labonte, Sterling Marlin, Ken Schrader, Cale Yarborough, Jack Roush, Robert Yates and many others.
“We’ve been making public appearances all over the country since back in February when NASCALLS™ was released,” said Mercer during a conversation about his upcoming appearance at Volunteer Speedway. “Not only among the NASCAR racing community, but among race fans period, this recording has turned out to be much more popular than what we had even envisioned. With all of the hype surrounding the overwhelming success of NASCALLS™ it definitely looks like there will be forthcoming volumes of more NASCALLS™ recordings in the future.
“I’ve been a race fan all my life, and I like all forms of motorsports. To me there’s nothing like a good night of dirt racing, and I’m really looking forward to getting to Volunteer Speedway to see some exciting action on those high banks that I’ve heard about. In all my travels around the country, one thing I’ve found out is it’s hard to beat the down-home hospitality of the good folks from around East Tennessee. It’s one of my favorite areas in the whole United States.”
