Katie Mitchell saw her bid to become the Middle School Golf Region 2 Champion come to a dramatic end in a playoff after finishing the final round in a tie for first place.
However, Mitchell helped her team, The King’s Academy, qualify for the state tournament by virtue of a second place overall finish behind region champion William Blount.
Alcoa Middle School finished in third place, followed by the Lady Eagles of Seymour Middle School who rounded out the top four.
In boys’ play, The King’s Academy finished in fourth place, just ahead of fifth place Seymour Middle School.
The complete Lady Lions team earned a chance to compete in the Champions Run in Nashville on Tuesday, May 16. Individual Lions golfers Tripp Mitchell (5th place overall with an individual score of 93) and Josh Preslar (6th overall with an individual score of 94) will also make the trip to Music City U.S.A. to compete in the state event on May 15.
Individually for the girls, Mitchell shot a round of 90 to finish in second place overall, and Allison Davis and Kelsi Pratt both shot rounds of 105 to tie for fifth place overall.
