Seymour set to begin district tourney The tennis teams of The King’s Academy and Seymour spit in a pair of matches late last week between the neighboring rivals The Lions, led by a pair of Seths, took a 6-3 team win over the Eagles, while the Lady Eagles, playing without regular top seed Keely Moore, managed to score a victory over the Lady Lions by a matching score. The boys matches were played at Seymour High School while the girls’ matches were held at The King’s Academy last Wednesday. Seth Hale and Seth Hunt rallied to 6-2 and 6-3 wins, respectively, over the top two singles from Seymour. Seymour’s Steven LeGrande (6-3) and Jordan Lawson (6-3) collected the only singles wins on the day for the Eagles. Nathanael Mosher (6-1) and Joe Garcia (6-3) sealed the deal for the Lions with a pair of wins in the lower seed singles matches. The King’s Academy swept doubles action in boys play. With top seeded Seymour player Keely Moore absent, Maggie Dew picked up the slack for the Lady Eagles and breezed to a 6-1 win over Lady Lions’ Leah Rose. Katie King and Kylie Barker gathered the only two singles victories for the King’s Academy in girls action as Jennifer Wilson, Olya Basarab and Holly Huskey earned the final three singles wins for Seymour. The Lady Eagles then made it a clean sweep in girls doubles action, winning all three matches. Seymour will begin play in the district tournament today (Monday) at 9 a.m. at Tyson Park in Knoxville. Longtime Seymour tennis coach James Cotter feels that this year’s teams could be special. “I think for the first time ever at Seymour High School the boys team and the girls team have a shot to be the district champions,” said Cotter. “It’s a very young team, but it’s also a talented team with a lot of potential.”
