Mikels, Feezel and Josey get recognized for 2005/06 basketball season news@theheraldnewspapers.com The post-season basketball honors for Seymour High School senior Brittany Mikels continue to gather. On Wednesday the Maryville College signee was chosen as a member of the Knoxville-News Sentinel’s PrepXtra girls’ basketball third team. The newspaper assembled the team’s with players from across East Tennessee. William Blount junior guard Angela Puleo, whom Mikels and the Lady Eagles played against this past season in a Heritage High School holiday tournament, was chosen as the girls Player of the Year. Mikels led the Lady Eagles to the state tournament for the third time in four years during her decorated senior season. She averaged 13.2 points per game and 6.1 rebounds per game while shooting 43 percent from the field last season. Just last month, Mikels signed to play her college baskeball for head coach Dee Bell and the Lady Scots of Maryville College. She was joined on the PrepXtra third team by Summer Phipps, a senior forward at Morristown West, Shy Marsh, a sophomore guard at Austin-East, Kayla Christopher, a freshman guard at Oliver Springs and Faith Dupree, a freshman post at Anderson County. The 5-foot-10 post player was coached at Seymour High School by Randy Moore. Sevier County High School junior James Feezel and The King’s Academy senior Carl Josey were both selected as honorable mention for the PrepXtra team. Feezel, a 6-foot-3 wing/forward was the Smoky Bears most dynamic player and seemed to get better as the season progressed. He has a chance to really shine for the Smoky Bears next season under first-year coach Ken Wright. Josey, a Virginia Military Institute signee, finished his senior season at The King’s Academy with the ninth best scoring average in East Tennesee (19.6). He led East Tennessee in rebounds per game (13.8), was 10th in assists (4.7) and fourth in steals (3.2). The 6-foot-5 Josey spent most of his time on the post at The King’s Academy but was skilled enough to perform at a high level at all five positions on the court.
