Lady Eagles shot down by Fulton

Seymour will end regular season with two big district games this week news@theheraldnewspapers.com It wasn’t the ideal way to enter Tuesday night’s District 3-AA clash with Gibbs. The Seymour Lady Eagles were upset Monday night by the Fulton Lady Falcons 4-2 just 24 hours before facing district-leading Gibbs for the third time this season. After losing the first regular-season tilt to Gibbs during the first month of the season, Seymour upset Gibbs when the two teams met in a mid-season tournament. The Seymour tournament win, however, did not count toward the official district standings. Details of Tuesday night’s Seymour-Gibbs affair will be available in Thursday’s edition of The Smoky Mountain Herald. Despite four defensive errors committed by the Lady Falcons, Seymour couldn’t manage to climb back into the game after falling behind 4-1 in the third inning. Fulton put two runs on the board in both the second and third innings. Seymour generated a sixth-inning score when Brittini Raulston struck for an RBI double to score Tabitha Gibbs, who had reached on one of Fulton’s four defensive miscues. Chere’ Monday, whose RBI double in the first inning scored freshman Natalie Hawn, went the distance on the mound for Seymour, striking out nine and allowing three earned runs. The Lady Eagles, who now sit at 4-4 in district play, will host Carter tonight in a contest that will go far in deciding the seedings for next week’s district tournament. Seymour will more than likely finish either third or fourth in District 3-AA Next week’s District 3-AA Tournament will begin Monday night at Gibbs.
