Roller-skating around the world

Seymour High School sophomore Shauna McCullough is a roller-skating globe-trotter. McCullough just got back from competing with Team USA at the World Roller Skating Championships in Murcia, Spain over the last week of November and the first week of December. McCullough, who is currently sporting a bandage on her ankle and walking with crutches after twisting her ankle on the final event at the competition in Spain, has been skating since she was 5-years old. Last year the 15-year old, who is also a member of the SHS cheerleading squad, went to Italy as a member of Team USA. She said because of being hampered by the injured ankle, she actually performed better during last year’s competition. She finished fifth in the Sr. Inline event last month and 14th in the Junior Ladies Free Program. Coached by her mother, Vicki McCullough, she practices her skating at Skate Town in Fountain City three hours per day, six days a week. Originally from just outside of Sacremento, California, Shauna says skating has been a big part of her family for as long as she can recall. Her mother and father, David McCullough, actually met while roller skating. McCullough was accompanied on her trip to Spain by both her parents and grandparents. She said that besides getting the chance to do some sightseeing in Spain, they also took a plane ride to Paris for a day of soaking in the European culture in the City of Lights.
