The King’s Academy has 10 different players attempt goals in 6-1 soccer win chris@theheraldnewspapers.com The King’s Academy Lions added another victory to their already impressive 2006 profile Thursday night with a 6-1 triumph over visiting Anderson County. The Lions (5-0-2) remain unbeaten after racing out to a 4-0 first half lead and holding on down the stretch, staving off a potential Maverick rally to claim the 6-1 victory. Anderson County head coach Sammy Woodfin was impressed with the product that the Lions presented on the soccer pitch. “I think they’re definitely a better-than-average high school soccer team,” Woodfin said of The King’s Academy. “They were fast and physically a whole lot bigger than us. They seem to play together well and are very skilled in the midfield.” After the Lions jumped out to the 4-0 halftime advantage, Anderson County did manage to generate some second-half noise but were outscored 2-1 by The King’s Academy over the last 40 minutes. “We played a good second half after playing a really bad first half,” Woodfin remarked. “We played like a bunch of freshmen in the first half, but we had a heart-to-heart talk at halftime and I guess our players decided to do what the coach told them.” Woodfin said other than one junior and one senior, the Mavericks are comprised of sophomores and freshmen. Se Hun Park and Ben Blodgett again split time in the goal for the Lions with Park manning the goal during the first half and Blodgett taking his turn guarding the net during the final 40 minutes. Each keeper was shot on three times during their respective time in the goal, with Blodgett allowing the lone Maverick score. The King’s Academy had 24 shots at goal during the contest compared to just six for Anderson County. Grant Beeler and Seung Tae Lee tallied two goals each for the Lions, and Jesse Ndurumo and David Inyang both accounted for one score. 10 different Lions players attempted shots on goal against the Mavericks. Beeler was credited with a pair of assists, and Matt King, Gareth Rowlands, Nicholas Giles and Lee all had one assist. The King’s Academy’s home game tonight against Loudon will be the team’s final match until April 21st and 22nd at the Division II Tournament. The school will be on spring break next week.
