Lions Inyang chosen Red Zone Player of the Week David Inyang selected as the Red Zone Player of the Week at The King’s Academy. According to Coach Dan Kirkpatrick, Inyang was chosen because:Inyang set the tone of the game from his center and defensive tackle positions. His leadership and aggressiveness helped the Lions dominate the line play. Inyang led the team in tackles with 13, 2 for loss. He also had a fumble recovery. The Red Zone Player of the Year program is designed to recognize varsity high school football players showing outstanding athletic performance, strong leadership, and the will to win in the Red Zone. These players are selected on their ability to elevate their own game, as well as the game of their teammates. Every week, one player is selected as the Red Zone Player of the Week at each participating high school. At the end of the season, one player from each school will be nominated to represent their team for possible selection as a national finalist. From these local nominations, the Red Zone Player of the Year Awards Committee will select 50 finalists to be announced in USA Today in February 2005 to coincide with national letter of intent signing day. This is the fourth year for this unique and inspiring program. The Red Zone Player of the Year program is nationally sponsored by Procter & Gamble Old Spice® Red Zone Deodorant. The program is created and managed by 360 Youth, LLC, an Alloy company. Football powerhouses Tennessee and Oklahoma to square off in 2014-15 Tennessee athletics director Mike Hamilton announced Tuesday that Tennessee and Oklahoma have agreed to square off on the gridiron in 2014 and 2015. The Volunteers will travel to Norman, Okla., Sept. 13, 2014, before the schools face one another in Neyland Stadium Sept. 2, 2015. “This matchup is another opportunity for two of the great traditional college football programs to meet on the field,” UT athletics director Mike Hamilton said. “Both programs have storied histories and rank among the NCAA’s top 10 in all-time total wins. Since 1926, Tennessee and Oklahoma rank first and third, respectively, in overall victories.” Despite each program’s standing among the nation’s elite, Tennessee and Oklahoma have met only twice, with both games taking place at the Orange Bowl in Miami, Fla. The Vols shut out the Sooners 17-0 in the 1939 Orange Bowl (UT’s second bowl game ever). Then in the 1968 Orange Bowl, Oklahoma posted a 26-24 victory to even the all-time series at 1-1. Since legendary head coach Gen. Robert R. Neyland coached his first team at Tennessee in 1926, the Vols have won more games (618) than any other school in the country. Oklahoma ranks third nationally with 602 wins since 1926. The last time Tennessee faced an opponent from the Big 12 Conference in the regular season was the 1997 season-opener against Texas Tech, as the fifth-ranked Vols defeated the Red Raiders 52-17 in Knoxville. Vols and Rebels set for afternoon kickoff The SEC announced Monday that the Vols and Rebels will play an afternoon game in Knoxville. The game will be broadcast by Jefferson pilot at 12:30 on October 1st. This will be Tennessee’s second appearance on the JP game of the week in 2005. Tennessee leads the series by a 42-18-1 margin and is 23-5 at home. Mississippi hasn’t beaten the Vols’ since 1983. Brock named SAC Women’s Soccer Player of the Week Carson-Newman senior Jenny Bock has been named this week’s South Atlantic Conference (SAC) women’s soccer Player of the Week. Bock scored a goal in each of the 23rd-ranked Lady Eagles three matches and had two assists as week as C-N won all three contests. In a 5-0 win over King to begin the week, Bock had a goal and an assist. In the SAC opener at PC, Bock scored the first goal of the match and had the assist on the second goal as C-N won 2-0. Bock had a goal in a 2-0 win over Lynn to finish the week. For the season, Bock has five goals, six assists and 21 points.
