Dreams do come true

Seymour player signs college scholarship Omar Lopez came to this country from Venezuela and couldn’t speak much English but that didn’t stop him from achieving his goals. “It’s like a dream come true. I came from Venezuela and I’ve been dedicated to play” were the words of Omar just moments after he signed a contract to go play soccer for King Academy in Bristol, Tennessee. When asked how long it took to learn the language Omar responded “About 6 months. I had to learn English before I could play but coach Lavinder has given me a big opportunity.” Friends and family were also in attendance including his mother Arly Alayon, who was overjoyed with her son’s success. “That’s my boy right there” she kept telling everyone. They all came to witness the culmination of 3 years hard work and dedication pay off. Omar is a 6 foot, 170lbs defensive stopper for Seymour High School for the past 3 years where he accumulated 13 goals and 9 assists. King Academy head coach Matt Lavinder was impressed with not only Omar’s stats but also his love for the game. “Once I saw Omar play I was really impressed with him” coach Lavinder had to say about his newest player. “I was really impressed because he loves the game and I’ve grown to appreciate that.” King College’s soccer team came off an impressive 7-6-2 season last year, placing 2nd in the conference. They have also advanced to the region tournament 2 of the last 3 years. Omar heads off to Bristol in August where his dreams will continue and his future just begins.
