Lady Eagles hold on for win

The Seymour Lady Eagles started the Region 2AA tournament right Monday night with a win over the Loudon Lady Redskins 60-53. The Lady Eagles successfully managed to hustle the ball and complete the shots they needed when necessary to take an early lead that they held onto for the game. Brittany Mikels went 4-4 during the first half and completed a free throw while Keely Moore made both her treys to help put the Lady Eagles ahead of Loudon 30-22. Seymour managed to extend their lead even further in the 3rd as Keely Moore, Jennifer Wilson and Brittany Mikels are scored from 3 point land, and Megan Peterson dropped a pair of buckets plus both her free throws. Loudon was held to only three baskets the entire quarter including a trey from #52 Megan Hart and 4 points each from Karalee Gasper and Brittany Everett. The girls seemed on top of their game until the last quarter began and Loudon finally woke up from their 3 quarter long slumber. Megan Hart buried two treys and Gasper fired off one of her own to bring the Lady Redskins within inches of overtaking Seymour’s lead. It was at this point that Seymour began to get into foul trouble again. 11 of Loudon’s 20 points in the 4th came from foul shots. 3 of Seymour’s top players fouled out including starter Brittany Mikels and Jennifer Wilson. The Lady Eagles finally managed to get back into the game and held on to the lead until the clock ran down signifying their win. That win has propelled the Lady Eagles into the second round of the Region 2AA tournament where they will meet strength ranked 2nd Oliver Springs at Carter High School starting at 7:30pm. The winner of this match-up will move on to the finals of the Regional tournament.
