JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles won a pair of 2-0 games against the Lady Lions of Mountain State University Sunday afternoon at the C-N Softball Complex. In the first game, Megan Elliott (East Ridge, Tenn.) had six strikeouts and gave up only two hits in seven innings as she improved to 10-1 on the season.
The Lady Eagles picked up both of their runs in the first two innings of the first contest. Mandy Stevens (Knoxville, Tenn.) doubled to left field, advanced to third on a past ball and came home on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first. The second run of the contest came when Lauren McKaig (Trenton, Ga.) reached on an infield single, stole second and third base and scored when LeAndrea Johnson (Chattanooga, Tenn.) scored on an infield single. Elliott was one again impressive in the second game as she pitched all seven innings, gave up three hits, three walks and struck out six MSU batters. Meaghan McNutt (Knoxville, Tenn.) walked to begin the home half of the first inning and then stole second base.
She scored when Erin Rutherford singled to left. The Lady Eagles added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning when Kim Thorne (Dalton, Ga.) singled to center field and came home when Hillary Hammond (Chattanooga, Tenn.) singled to left field. The Lady Eagles improve to 11-2 and will host Limestone on Feb. 28 at 2 p.m.
