Seymour takes on Lenoir City tonight
The Seymour Eagles have advanced into the Region 2AA tournament and will be facing Lenoir City in the first round tonight at Carter High School.
The Eagles are coming off an outstanding performance in the District tournament last week after defeating both Carter and #1 ranked Austin-East to advance into the finals where they met Fulton. Although Fulton did win the game Seymour gave them quite a run for their money and if they continue to play the same type of ballgame that they have been, they could be a force in this tournament as well.
The Eagles went into the District tournament as underdogs and proved to all disbelievers that they can play the game of basketball. They showed everyone that they do know what team work is and they silenced those that never expected them to make it past round 1.
Will Seymour be able to once again silence the voices of those who stand against them and show all the doubters that the Eagles are not winning by chance.
The combination of Josh Harmon and Chris Slay on the court is a force to be reckoned with. The two players combined averaged almost half of all the points that Seymour scored in the tournament. If Chris isn’t taking it to the hoop and drawing the foul Josh is waiting along the perimeter and burying the treys.
The rest of the team also has lended their hands to helping bring Seymour to the top of their game. Danny Dreaden has been a constant thorn in the oppositions side, making the baskets when they are needed most. The only problem that I see with this team right now is how many turnovers they have been allowing per game. In their last game against Fulton they allowed for 28 turnovers which inevitably cost them the game in the long run.
I do believe that if the team can control the ball more often and continue to hit those all important shots when needed, along with the help of their relief players, we could possibly see regional champions.
