Seymour sweeps six way track meet

Stephanie Moore and Rachel Stooksbury broke Seymour High School records and helped the SHS track and field team sweep a six-team meet held at the high school Monday evening. Moore set a new school record in the 3200 meter run by posting a time of 12:37, shattering the old record of 13:11. Stooksbury ran 18.03 in the 100 high hurdles, besting the old school mark of 18.05. Track squads representing Gatlinburg-Pittman, Catholic, Cosby, Tennessee School for the Deaf and Union County joined Seymour for the multi-team event on a mild day with clear skies and temperatures in the 50’s, making for an ideal afternoon of competition. The Lady Eagle tracksters compiled a score of 166 for the day, outdistancing Gatlinburg-Pittman (148), Catholic (131), Union County (24) and TSD (23) to take top honors. The Eagles’ score of 191 gave them a first place finish over Catholic (184), Gatlinburg-Pittman (54), Union County (44), TSD (8) and Cosby (5). Besides the two record breaking efforts, the Lady Eagles also posted top scores in the following events: Sarah Troutman, Holly Kegley, Erin Inman and Stooksbury in the 800 meter relay; Jacqueline Dutton in the 400 meter run (1:08.3) and long jump (14’4); Gina Ownby in the shot (29’6.5); Jessi Peterson in the high jump (4’8); and Stooksbury in the triple jump (27’1). The Lady Eagles had second place finishes in the following:400 relay (Brittany Hunt, Stooksbury, Inman, and Kegley); 3200 relay (Amy Dememer, Brittany Galyon, Brandi Trout and Bethany Wolfe); 100 meter run (Kegley); 400 meter run (Heather Wright); 800 meter run ( Moore);1600 relay (Chelsea Ailey, Trout, Kara Walker and Crystal Allen); and shot (Harrell). The Eagles took first place in the following events: Caleb Moore, Chris Smith, Ryan Brewer, and Aaron Lee in the 400 meter relay (45.93); Nathan Kegley Chris Thomas, Jeremy White and Shane Humphrey in the 3200 meter relay (9:42.5); Lee in the 100 meter run (11.17); Moore, Smith, Chris Thomas and Lee in the 800 meter relay (1:37.5); Moore in the 200 meter run (24.09); Chris Slay in the high jump (5’8); and Anthony Serafine in the triple jump (40’6) and long jump (19’7). Second place finishers for Seymour were: Michael Serafine in the triple jump (38’6) and long jump (17’8); Scott Thomas in the discus (108’6); Kegley, Duncan Smith, Patrick Rule and Ryan Williamson in the 1600 meter relay (4:22); Smith in the 200 meter run; Brandon Silvers in the 800 meter run (2:18); Jimmy Odham in the 300 hurdles (54.2); Thomas in the 400 meter run (56.84); Michael Bazzone in the 1600 meter run (4:59); and Oldham in the 110 hurdles (18.06).
