Domingo wins in late models at 411

New car a hit at track C.C. Domingo brought out his new 411 Late Model on Saturday night, setting fast time in the blue and white machine, and leading every lap. Domingo’s night wasn’t easy as track regular, and former Modified Mini regular, John Byers stayed right on the back bumper of Domingo, almost taking the win away on the last turn of the race. Byers had been stalking Domingo lap after lap, gaining precious ground until he got right on the back of his car. The two went into turn three and Byers had to stab the brakes hard to keep from getting into the back of Domingo. It was the debut of the new late model division at 411 and the crowd loved the new cars. John Drew took the third spot despite an ill handling car, with Sevier County High School instructor Jim Caylor taking fourth. Butch Manifold rounded out the top five. The Modified Mini division had twelve cars compete and saw a first-time winner for the season. Bud Long took his Toyota to the front and led every lap for the win. Several caution periods bunched up the field, but Long was able to hold off all the challenges for the win. Steve Owens Jr. took second after having to move through the field and Cindy Poore took third. Tommy Metler had a crash that he couldn’t avoid, but brought his number 8 Mustang back to fourth just in front of first time competitor Jim Galloway who took fifth. The Classic cars had the closest finish of the year as Frogge Ingle and Charlie Dunlap fought it out again. The two inherited the lead after leader Mike Strose went high in turn four and tagged the wall hard. On the restart, Ingle got the lead and held it until the final lap when Dunlap went high, edging out Ingle for the win. The Modified Street division took a little time to figure out the winner as Robert Martin broke an axle on the last lap with only two cars left in the field. Brother, James Martin thought he had pulled off the win, but Robert crossed the line for the final time and took the checkered flag. Attrition was the name of the game as other cars fell victim to overheating and blown engines. Phillip Derosia took third and Bob Martin exited early, but got fourth. The Luxury Sedan saw FBI driver, Terry Welborne have another great night with his black car, staying in front of rival Rat Boy. Welborne was in victory lane after the race and the rest of the competitors came out to voice their displeasure with his win, but Welborne let everyone know he will take on all challengers, in the future. The Mini Chargers came out with Kat James starting on the pole and leading the first half of the race. James stayed in front until Lynne Doane took to the low side and passed her for the lead. A lap later, Jake Ginter got by the blue Chevy and took over the second spot. Ginter tried to get to the back bumper of Doane, but fell a few feet short and settled for second.
