Eagles lose Terrell Owens for playoffs?
According to reports on Tuesday, Terrell Owens may be lost for the playoffs. Owens will undergo surgery for the ankle injury he received in Sunday’s game against Dallas. Owens was hurt on the second play of the third quarter when Roy Williams dragged him down from behind after Owens made a 20-yard reception.
Owens immediately grabbed the back of his leg after the tackle. Tests revealed a high ankle sprain, a screw will be implanted to stabilize and strengthen the ankle joint.
Owens told reporters he is very disappointed that the injury has taken him out of the playoffs, T.O. said he looked forward to taking the team to the Super Bowl, but believes that they can still make the trip without his play.
Philadelphia has the best record in the NFL and clinched home field advantage with the win against Dallas on Sunday.
NFL fines
Donovan Darius
The NFL announced on Tuesday that they would fine The Jacksonville Jaguar’s Donovan Darius $75,000 for unnecessary roughness. The fine comes after Darius used Green Bay Packer’s wide receiver, Robert Ferguson as a personal punching bag.
NFL Director of Football Operations, Gene Washington issued the fine, noting in a letter to Darius that on a pass play, “you violently and unnecessarily struck your opponent in the neck and the head area with your forearm.” Darius was ejected from the game immediately after the play.
According to the report, Washington stated that Darius’ actions violated rule 12, section 2, article 1(c) of the NFL Official Paying Rules.
Manning looking
for record
Peyton Manning and his Indianapolis Colts were looking for victory last Sunday, and they were looking for Manning to get the record for the most touchdown throws in a single season, a record now held by former Miami Dolphin Dan Marino.
The Colts got half of their wish, but Manning says he can wait until next week for the record as long as the wins keep coming.
Manning, who entered the game with the Baltimore Ravens two touchdowns shy of the record threw one, but couldn’t get the other one. Coming into the game, many of the experts were wondering if the former UT star could get any touchdowns against formidable Ravens defense.
During the game the crowd cooperated with Manning by keeping it quiet in the RCA dome so that he could change plays at the line of scrimmage almost every play. Manning said after the game that the defense threw him several multiple formations, which caused him to change plays constantly.
The Colts will play a resurgent San Diego Chargers next week, and the team considers it a big game also. Manning told reporters that if they can come away with the win, he doesn’t care about the record.
