Lady Vol’s squeak by Temple

The UT Lady Vols basketball team (4-1) dodged a scare from unranked Temple on Sunday and pulled out a win 52-48. The Lady Vols were coming off a loss to Texas and didn’t improve much on the performance they showed in the Lone Star state. In Texas the Vols shot only 33 percent during the game and came back with a 32 percent statistic against Temple. It took nearly five minutes for the Lady Vols to score their first points and trailed in the first half until Alexis Hornbuckle scored on a layup right at the halftime buzzer. Temple led the game four times in the second half and took the lead with 4:44 left in the game with two free throws. Shanna Zolman made two free throws for UT and gave Tennessee the lead for good and they hung on for the win. “We had no organized offense,” commented UT coach Pat Summitt after the game. “Temple did a good job of controlling tempo and establishing what they wanted to establish.” Tennessee will probably fall from the number one ranking after their loss to Texas on Thanksgiving Day. The team narrowly avoided their first loss to an unranked team in Thompson-Boling Arena since it’s opening in 1987.
