Creekside hosts girls tourney

Creekside Plantation in Seymour hosted the TMSGA state golf tournament this past week. The Farragut team walked off with top honors for the second year in a row. FMS edged Maury by a stroke 83-84 on the nine hole course. Greenville took third at 84, losing a sudden death play off. “This was by far the most exciting tournament for girls we’ve had,” stated David Sherrod, the middle school golf association director. “The Creekside course is a tough 9 hole layout that resembles courses in Florida. It’s very flat with lots of sand, water and marshes. It’s a real test of skill and course management that separates the good from the average,” he added. Caitlin Fortner of Greenville and Kristen Price of Maury locked horns again when they tied for top honors with 37’s. It took three sudden death play-off holes before Fortner sank a short put for par at number three to secure the victory. Seymour and The King’s Academy represented the local region in the tournament. The two teams that have played close all season, again were neck and neck, but TKA placed one higher 106-108.
