On Friday, February 14th Seymour Christian traveled to Athens to play Fairview Christian Academy in the final road contest of the year. The girls lost to Fairview 38-31. SCCS kept it close most of the game but couldn’t get any closer than seven points down the stretch. Hannah Johnson was game high with 10 points in a losing cause. Lauran Matthews also added eight for Seymour. Katie McCay was high for the victors with nine. In the boy’s game everything that could possibly go wrong in the first half went wrong. Seymour was very cold shooting while everything that Fairview put up went in. Consequently, the Commanders were behind 36-10 at the half. In the second half SCCS began the comeback that fell just a bit short. The final score for Fairview was 55-42. Joe Torbett was game high for Fairview with 22. SCCS featured a balanced scoring attack with eight from both Jeremiah Walden and Ryan Romines. On Monday night the boys finished the regular season with a thrilling 44-40 win over Providence Christian of Johnson City. The Commanders fell behind in the first quarter 12-4 but half-time saw the game tied at 19 each. The game remained close the rest of the way with Providence grabbing a 39-35 lead late. From that point the SCCS defense did not allow another field goal. Some clutch free throw shooting by Jeremiah Walden and David Burchfield sealed the victory. Jeremiah Walden was game high for Seymour with 14 points while Ryan Romines added 10. James Herrington had 10 for Providence. On Tuesday night the SCCS girls were involved in a game against Knoxville Baptist to see who would advance to the ETCAC Tournament. The Lady Commanders advanced with a 45-22 win. Seymour had a strong first half showing to go into the locker room leading 25-5 at half-time. Hannah Johnson had eight of her 13 points in the second quarter. In the second half it was Amanda King leading the way for the winners with 12 of her game-high 16 points. Shannon Blakely led Knoxville Baptist with eight.
