Sevier County Bear Greg Cole was announced as a East Tennessee Chapter of the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame 2003 scholar-athlete. Cole was one of 27 students chosen from high schools across East Tennessee. The student-athletes all have GPAs above 3.8. The award was sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Northside Knoxville. Cole is a senior at Sevier County High School where he played linebacker and fullback for the Bears while maintaining a 3.95 G.P.A. He led the team in tackles, tallying 63 solo stops and 32 assists for a season total of 95 in the regular season. Of those, six were hits for a loss and two were quarterback takedowns. “He’s one of those guys who shows up every day and works to be his best, not just on the field, but in the classroom,” says SCHS football coach Steve Brewer. His teammates obviously agreed. The Bears elect the team captains at the end of the season and Cole was elected by his peers to be one of them. He was also selected to the All Region Academic team.
