Boys field another first, Girls run to second

The Eagle Track teams took the short hop to Heritage Tuesday night for a four way meet with Gatlingburg Pittman, Heritage and Union County. The boys team took another first-place finish on the strength of their field performances, while the girls team used their increased numbers to increase their points in the relays and finish second. Seymour’s girls got solid points in the field events with Danielle Wolfe taking third in the shot and discus. Jessi Peterson leaped her way to first in high jump, third in long jump and second in the triple jump. On the field Dutton gathered a first in the 200 and 400. Stooksbury led the charge in the short sprints, taking first in the 100 before second legging the relay teams to a second in the 400R and third in the 800R. The Girls ended the meet in second place with 72 points, behind Heritage’s 109. G-P finished with 53 points and Union County 13. The boys used a similar approach, taking first place points in four of five field events. Scott Thomas took the discus, Johnson took a first and Rickels a fourth in the shot. Anthony Serafine took first in long and triple jumps. Humphrey and Blanchard notched 2 and 4 place points in the two mile run to get things started on the track. Sentell and Blanchard took first and second in the 800 run, then anchored the two mile relay team to a first place finish as SHS swept the relays with first places. The Seymour Boys finished first with 111 points, Heritage second with 93, G-P 36 and Union County 16. The Eagles returned to the track for practice and individual work outs the remainder of the week. As the season progresses, Jessi Peterson continues working in the field events for a return to the regional Pentathlon competition. Scott Thomas is showing progress in the discus. The girl’s and boy’s relay teams continue to work, carrying plenty of speed but working hard on developing more comfort in the vital exchanges. Light workouts will follow this week as the teams prepare for a trip to Gatlinburg and a four way meet with Cosby including second meetings with Pigeon Forge and G-P.
