Eagles tennis tames Lions

In the battle of the burbs, Seymour’s tennis teams took a match from The King’s Academy Netters Tuesday. SHS served 8-1 victories for the boys and girls teams. The boys’ teams met at Seymour, with the Eagles taking victories in the first five singles spots. A close match followed in the top doubles spot between TKA’s duo of Jordan Ungst and Sung Jung versus SHS’s Nathan Julian and Matt Davenport, before the Eagles prevailed 7-5. Seymour handily won the other two doubles matches. On the girl’s side, the teams met at The King’s Academy courts. The Lady Eagles swept the top two spots quickly, before the closest match of the day at the three spot where Seymour’s Kristin Vandergriff got a narrow 7-6 (7-3) victory over Lady Lion Katie King. Aileen Zhao won the only TKA point, beating Savannah Finchum 6-4 in the five seed. SHS netters take second win of the week Halls – Meeting Union County High on neutral ground the Eagles took their second win of the week. The boys claimed their second 8-1 win, while the girls victory came on a 6-3 advantage. With their top singles player Chris O’Barr out of action, the Eagles all stepped up a notch to meet Union County. Drew Stokes and Matt Davenport took victories in the top two slots while Kevin Thomas, Nathan Julian and Joey Moore all won their matches 6-4. SHS swept the doubles matchups, with Joseph Laurent teaming up with Thomas for a 6-1 win at the third spot. On the girl’s side, the Lady Eagles top seed Erin O’Connor took her second singles victory of the week with a 6-3 win. Fourth seed Sarah Hively and sixth slot Jessica Brown took 6-4 victories as the teams split the singles 3-3. O’Connor and Byrne gave the advantage back to SHS with a 6-4 win in the doubles. The Lady Eagles continued the roll to sweep the doubles with the duo of Vandergriff and Hively winning 6-2, and a 6-3 victory by the team of Jessie Boaz and Mandy England. Seymour takes a long weekend off before facing Alcoa on Tuesday.
