Happy Birthday Coach Householder

Seymour Head Football Coach Gary Householder celebrated his 53rd birthday last week while he and his team were using the off-week to prepare for a challenging stretch of games to end the season. It is probably a coincidence that Coach Householder was born smack-dab in the middle of football season, but there may be something to it. And since there was no game last Friday night and no Seymour Herald Player of the Week, this space will be used to give some props to Coach Householder as he guides his team to the playoffs in his 30th year of coaching Eagles’ football. Householder (230-81) is one of the winningest high school coaches in the state. He was named the East Tennessee Coach of the Year in 1980, 1981, 1999 and 2000. He has been named district coach of the year nine different times (at least once every four years from 1977 through 1998). He should be a leading candidate for that award again this year. Householder also serves as the School’s Athletic Director and spent three years a Seymour Assistant Football Coach prior to being named head coach.
