By Chris Silcox The Seymour Lady Eagles advanced to Wednesday nights region semi-finals with a 51-45 win Monday night over the Kingston Yellow Jackets. Brooke Johnson led Seymour with 25-points and 12 rebounds. Danielle Wolfe contributed 12 points and nine boards. Seymour led through most of the game but the Lady Yellow Jackets wouldn't go away quietly and trimmed the Lady Eagle lead down to 47-45 with 1:03 left before Seymour connected from the foul line down the stretch to get the win. "That was a tough game," said Lady Eagle coach Brian Channel. "Kingston is a slippery little team. It's easy to underestimate them. We were up by a pretty safe margin and they came at the end and started bombing three's from all over the court." Kingston took their first lead on the opening basket of the game. From there Seymour pulled in front on a Wolfe three-pointer and stayed in front until Kingston tied it at 8-8 with a lay-up at the 1:35 mark. Johnson then an old school three-point play and Kingston hit a free throw in the last minute to make the Seymour lead 11-9 after the first. Seymour then ran off nine in a row to make it 20-9 with 5:40 left in the second. The teams swapped buckets until the Lady Yellow Jackets scored four unanswered to end the half with Seymour leading 26-18. Kingston came out strong in the second half successfully maintaining a fast tempo, in an attempt to keep the ball out of Johnson's hands. It worked to large degree as the Lady Yellow Jackets cut it to 37-35 when they beat Seymour back down the court for a lay-up with 1:20 left in the third. The Lady Eagles scored the last three points of the quarter to lead 40-35 going into the final round. Seymour made another small run to begin the fourth with a 44-36 lead at the 4:05 mark. At that point Kingston started knocking down some treys and made the Seymour fans sit on the edge of their seat for a couple of minutes before the Lady Eagles held on for the win. Seymour scoring: Brooke Johnson 25; Rachel Ketron 2; Jaime McMillan 2; Ashley Murphy 5; Jessi Peterson 3; Danielle Wolfe 12; Heather Wright 3. 1st 2nd 3rd 4th SHS 11 26 40 51 KHS 9 18 35 45
