The Seymour Church of Christ is in the planning stage of moving to a new location.
While it is unclear exactly when the move will be made, the process of preparing the site of the new church has already begun.
Church of Christ recently purchased the house and property at 434 Boyds Creek, at the corner of Chilhowee School Rd.
“We’re looking to build a nice, attractive, functional facility that will be benefit to both the growth and development of the church, and also the community,” said Church of Christ Minister Tim Shoulders.
The building and property were purchased at an auction in July and once they closed on the property church members stepped up to demolish the damaged house to make room for the church’s new permanent building.
Members made it a priority to bring down the house and a shed on the property as soon as possible because the structures were damaged and could be dangerous to anyone who entered them, according to Shoulders.
Twelve members of the church have volunteered their time to take down the house, piece by piece and then haul the debris off of the property.
“We decided that we would save on cost if we took it down ourselves,” said Shoulders.
There are currently no plans for the new church building, church members are in the process now of interviewing contractors and architects, according to Shoulders.
“We would love to be in construction in the next 12 to 18 months,” he added.
