KNOXVILLE - Tennessee freshman basketball player Briana Bass has been named the Lady Vols’ CAREacter Star Athlete of the Week.
The CAREacter Program is based on a five-point star system that includes the basic traits of a true champion, whether on or off the field. Those traits are attitude, character, grades, community service and performance.
In last Saturday's comeback win at Rutgers, Bass effectively ran the offense in the second half, knowing when to push tempo and when to set up the half-court sets. She finished with six points on a pair of threes.
In the win at Gonzaga, the rookie point guard had a three pointer to break an early 15-15 tie and another to push the Lady Vol lead back to eight points at 43-34 with 17 minutes to play.
Every week coaches select one student-athlete as their school’s “Star Athlete of the Week” based on the aforementioned criteria.
