Dear Editor, I have just read the response to my letter of two weeks ago written by Mr. Phillip Parker. His letter was very eloquent and patriotic, and I commend him for it. I was glad to see that my letter stimulated someone to voice his opinion, and to see The Herald editorial page expand to a half-page. Mr. Parker and I disagree, and that’s fine. I want to say, that I am not anti-American but I am anti-war. I have had ancestors who fought in many wars, as far back as the French and Indian War. I merely think that there has to be a way to resolve conflicts without killing. I have expressed these anti-war sentiments in casual discussions, and on one occasion a gentleman said to me, “[expletive], you ain’t nothing but a [expletive] ‘peacemonger!’” I had never heard that term before and was somewhat stunned by that comment, and to this day I have not found a definition of that particular term. Mr. Parker and I have expressed our opinions, and I am sure we both feel better having done so. I know that there are others of you who have something you want to say, and The Seymour Herald has shown that their editorial page is available for you to do so. Let’s hear from you, and, please direct your comments to the Editor and not to Mr. Parker or me. We have had our say, now it’s your turn. Thank you. Sincerely, Jack Sawyer
