it's so quiet and serene here

Compared to the rest of the world all is quiet and serene here in Seymour. Here we have had our share of unusual weather but compared to the rest of the country we got off quite well. And world wide the earth quake in Haiti was quite an event. Tennessee has had a few little quakes but they were barely felt. In Haiti even the after shocks were of considerable note.
A few days ago I received an e-mail from a friend who wanted the content passed on to my friend. This has to do with our personal protection. Besides your loved one what should you take to bed with yourself? Well, Bob suggests your car keys, h’m, OK. They are not for a quick get away. Most later model cars come with an alarm system which can be activated by a button on the key. Chances are you can activate the alarm from your bedroom or any where in your house, mine does. Your activated alarm would probably induce an intruder to leave post haste. This is worth giving some serious thought. He also reminded me that in many places it is unlawful to possess pepper spray or mace. Personally I really do not like either one. It is too easy to spray yourself as well as your assailant. He suggests wasp or hornet spray, actually they are not sprays, but shoot a steady stream up to 30 feet. Hit a bad guy in the face and he’s out of te picture for quite awhile. You can keep it in your car, next to your bed, in your house, where ever you like. Throughout our three county area we have had a lot of home invasions, be a scout, ‘Be Prepared.’
Higher electric bills are on the minds of many of us. TVA has warned of rate increases. This is something that we need to think about. Most of us have a microwave oven and it is used mostly for defrosting, heating leftovers or heating water for coffee or tea. Some of us actually learned to use them for cooking and have cooked and turned out some pretty decent meals. How it came in to disuse I don’t know. I recently picked up a microwave cookbook and realized that here was one little answer to using less electricity and saving some green. Me, I’m going to put the ‘wave’ back in the lineup.
As we face the days to come and wonder what they will bring don’t forget to praise the Lord and be grateful for what He brings to us. Don’t forget your nightly prayer and your prayer of gratitude in the mornings.
