Times were tough for the bands of people roaming around northern Europe in those day. Food was scarce and hard to find. The men of the tribes would follow game for many miles a day seven weeks at a time.
During those long hunts many of those men would die from the rigors of nature and wild beast. The ones that did survive were the best of the lot and were in great demand as a mate and provider. When these few did return home, the competition for them among the women had to be fierce.
Almost all of these women had dark brown hair and eyes, like most of the women alive at that time.
However, it appears that a random mutation had caused some women to be born with blonde hair. Also, many had blue or green eyes.
This exotic new look made them stand out from the crowds; a difference that appealed to the men who had a choice. They mated and gave birth to more blondes.
According to anthropologists in Europe, there is evidence of a blonde "spike" in the population which shows the blondes were sought after as mates. Further proof lies in the genetic predisposition of humans to pass along dominant genes and suppress or eliminate recessive traits such as being blonde.
If the attraction for blonde mates had not been especially strong way back then, those recessive genes would have probably disappeared many years ago leaving mostly brunettes.
That would have left me pretty much womanless. Except for an occasional redhead, I've never really been attracted to women of different hair color persuasions. Even when they do have blue or green eyes.
Nope, if'n they ain't blonde, they ain't fer this ole sun-of-a-gun!
