Leah Hughes Conner

Conner, Leah Hughes - age 90 of Knoxville passed away Thursday, January 1, 2009, at Holston Health and Rehabilitation Center. Leah was a longtime member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church where she was a member of the Adult V Ladies Sunday School Class, the Keenagers, and the WMU. She was also involved in the LLL seniors group. She worked in the office of Kingsdown Bedding Company in Knoxville until her retirement. She was the youngest of six children of the late Thomas G. and Lena Bowman Hughes of Johnson City, TN and Limestone Cove, TN. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Wayne C. Conner; her daughter, Nadine Conner Sowell; and son-in-law, Gene Sowell. She was also preceded in death by her brothers and sisters: James J. Hughes, Mary Hughes Fullen, Roberta Hughes Belcher, John Woodrow Hughes, and William Perry Hughes. Survivors include nieces and nephews and their families: Carroll L. Hughes, Franklin, TN; Betty Hughes Morrison, Johnson City, TN; Geraldine Hughes Lillard, Delano, TN; Charles E. Hughes, Albuquerque, NM; Bill J. Hughes, Murfreesboro, TN; Ken M. Belcher, Grovetown, GA; Trula Yarberry and Bob Jesse, both of Knoxville, TN. Visitation will be Monday evening, Jan 12th, from 6:00PM -7:30PM at Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Hwy, Knoxville, TN 37920. Funeral services will follow, with Rev. Deron Cobb, Senior Pastor, Mt. Olive Baptist Church, officiating. Family and friends are invited to meet on Tuesday, Jan 13th at Bell Cemetery in Limestone Cove, TN for an 11:00 AM interment.
